The Innovator’s Dilemma was published Clayton Christensen back in 2000. You can buy it here on Amazon. This audible synopsis was published by Christensen to summarize all of his writings on The Innovator’s Dilemma. It’s about an hour in length and only costs $1.95 on Amazon. You can buy it here.

Why do so few successful companies fail to innovate successfully despite deep pockets and talented people? This Wikipedia article lists many examples of disruptive technologies and disrupted technologies.

In this summary, he suggest four question that every management team should ask itself when it is considering undertaking innovation. Does my organization have the right [ ] to support innovation?

  1. Resources, not for business as usual,
  2. Processes, created for today, not yesterday,
  3. Values, not decision making protocols for existing processes or products, and
  4. Team and Structure, which is focused on the future, not the past.
While companies implementing EOS might quibble with how Christensen defines values, the big take away for him and for our clients is focus. Focus on creating and managing resources, processes, values, teams and structure appropriate to sustain what you have already or to consciously take you into new markets.
